Department of Radiotherapy and Radio Oncology

A major role in the management and activities of all interdisciplinary areas

1.500 patients -  both in- and out-patients -  decide for the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Sana Klinikum Offenbach every year. Leveraging high-end equipment and modern techniques, our interdisciplinary radiotherapy treatment is based on evidence based national and international standards and guidelines. We offer all required types of radiation treatments covering a wide variety of cancers, certain benign tumors as well as non-cancerous inflammatory diseases
The Department of Radiotherapy and Radio Oncology plays a major role in the management and activities of the Gynecological Cancer Center, Breast Center, GI Cancer Center, Lung Cancer Center and the Center for Neurooncology. A multifunctional team of doctors, medical physicists, medical technicians and nursing staff closely cooperates with other specialist departments at the Sana Klinikum Offenbach. We hereby ensure the highest standard of care in the following major interdisciplinary areas:

Building on modern technology for diagnostic work-up and treatment, the department focuses on the individual patient and his/her individual situation. We believe in a partnership between doctor and patient in order to come to the best joined treatment decision. Patients can contact the department for advice at any time and we offer a close follow up if indicated.
The department hosts regular tumor conferences with interdisciplinary experts in order to conclude and coordinate individual oncological treatment concepts. Depending on the individual diagnosis, the patient may receive treatment as an out-patient or in-patient.The doctors and the medical staff qualify through a broad set of professional education, ongoing in- and external trainings, all required certifications as well as of strong competences in palliative care.The department’s major areas of activities include

  • Image Guided External Beam  radiotherapy

  • Interstitial Brachytherapy
  • Combined Radiochemotherapy

The clinic is also well known for radiotherapy of benign diseases as arthrosis, heal spur etc..The Head of Department Prof. Peter Niehoff MaHM is an active member of different GEC-ESTRO working groups (Uro, Breast, Head and Neck and Brachy-HERO). He regularly organizes different workshops for General Brachytherapy Treatment and Prostate Brachytherapy. He was decorated with the Herman Strebel medal of the German, Austrian and Swiss Radiotherapy Society.
