Perinatal Center Level 1 "Hands that care"

  • The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the children’s hospital of the Sana Klinikum Offenbach is accredited as a level 1 perinatal center together with the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the hospital. Thus the highest standards of perinatal care are available

Diseases treated (selected)

  • In addition to extremely low birth weight neonates patients with the following diseases can be treated (selected diseases):
  • Severe birth asphyxia, meconium aspiration syndrome, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the neonate (PPHN), severe neonatal convulsions, metabolic diseases, severe hyperbilirubinemia, neonates of diabetic mothers, congenital heart disease, congenital malformations of the kidneys and urogenital tract, malformations of the intestinal tract such as imperforate anus, other congenital malformations

Staff

  • The staff is especially trained for the care of extremely low birth weight neonates and neonates at high risk. The qualification of physicians and nurses therefore also matches highest standards.
  • Two pediatricians are sub specialized in neonatology and pediatric intensive care. The neonatal department is therefore approved as a training unit for the sub specialization of neonatology.

Equipment (selected)

  • 10 NICU beds are equipped with modern respirators, monitoring systems and incubators. In addition resuscitation units and transport incubators are available. A multitude of diverse diagnostic facilities exists including:
  • Ultrasound (including color-duplex-sonography)
  • Mobile X-ray, MRI, CT-scan
  • Electrocardiography
  • Electroencephalography
  • Sensory evoked potentials
  • Radionuclide-scintigraphy
  • Bedside blood gas analyzer

  • The concept pursued in the children’s Hospital puts its focus on patient and their relatives. All departments and clinics cooperate in a multidisciplinary fashion with the perinatal department as the coordinating center.
  • The Sana Klinikum Offenbach is an academic teaching hospital of the University of Frankfurt. The hospitals cooperate in patient treatment, students’ education and scientific activities.
